About the Pineapple
The pineapple stands as an intriguing symbol of hospitality throughout the history of the Americas. Christopher Columbus brought the first pineapples to Europe in 1493, from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Immediately, pineapples were coveted for their incredible taste. Royal gourmets were amazed at how the pineapple’s ripe yellow pulp literally exploded into sweetness when chewed. Everyone wanted pineapples, but they were difficult to transport and, thus, very expensive.
Across the ocean, during early days of the American colonies, the concept of hospitality – the graciousness and style with which guests were received – was the cornerstone of society’s daily life. Families would set a pineapple in the center of the table as a colorful centerpiece for special meals, especially when guests joined them for celebrations. The pineapple showed the host’s willingness to share their wealth with their friends. The pineapple came to represent the sense of welcome and affection of such gatherings.
It is our hope that your guests, too, will be flattered at the honor of attending your special event, one catered by Cañon Catering. By displaying the pineapple, we commit to meeting the needs of each and every client, so that they can receive their guests with a sense of welcome and hospitality.
